When I was a little child, I wasn't very girlish. I didn't wear make up or try to paint on my nails with markers. I had friends who would play dress up and dance around pretending to be princesses. Not me. I was the kind of kid who would pull on some jeans and try to climb up a tree and throw things down at people who were passing underneath. I didn't get caught, which says a lot about my prowess, don't you think? I guess I am trying to say that modeling was not exactly my calling. I was very good friends with one of the "princess girls" though and it was because of her that I ended up doing what I do now. She wanted to enter a contest and was afraid to be by herself to do it. I said I would do it, too, because I had somehow managed to win a beauty pageant at my school. I don't even remembering entering it.
When I was 15 I got a call from Ford Modeling Agency asking me to please come to New York. I think I got second place and ended up staying there because let's face it, the money is very nice. I know that money is not everything in this world, but it definitely can help to feed the family and pay the rent. I am also a huge fan of travel, so I am able to see all parts of the world basically free. It's a great life and I am very happy to be living it without any real regrets so far.
I didn't kiss a boy until I was 17 years old. Believe it or not, I'm actually very shy around men. Especially if they are very handsome or incredibly sweet. I warm up pretty well if they have a dynamic sense of humour. It's funny to think of someone doing what I do, especially for Victoria's Secret, to be shy. I am not as quiet as I was when I was younger, but I still tend to be the least out going. Of course, if Justin Timberlake was wanting to change that, I might be able to be persuaded. (Especially with a Midori Sour in hand)
Most people know me, if they know me, from Victoria's Secret or Maybelline. I am very proud of my work as a model, but even more proud of the work I am doing as an actor. I suppose it is pretty cliche for a model to turn to acting. But it is a nice transition to go from being a pretty face to a pretty face with a voice. In the end, we all like to have a voice in our lives. This is one outlet we can use to make sure we can help make the world a better place.
My favorite way to help when I can is by helping Caminhos da Luz. It is an orphanage in my hometown and the words in English mean "Way of Light." It's hard to think about children not having a family, much less not having enough to eat or the right clothes to wear to keep them safe, warm and healthy. My other cause close to my heart is animal rights. I think that animals are the purest form of life and we shouldn't let anyone harm them.
